Foreigners living in Slovakia can find free Slovak language courses designed to facilitate everyday communication and integration into the country.
One of the available options is the program organized by the Migration Information Centre (MIC) of the International Organization for Migration.
The courses are online and offer training from beginner to advanced intermediate levels.

The program is designed to help foreigners develop language skills useful for everyday life.
The classes use interactive methods and pay special attention to conversation.
The practical use of Slovak in real-life situations is also covered.
This includes shopping, asking for information, visiting the doctor, completing paperwork, and communicating at work.
Who can participate?
The courses are primarily aimed at citizens of countries that are not members of the European Union or the European Economic Area . Participants must meet certain residency requirements in Slovakia.
These may include people with temporary, permanent, or tolerated.
Certain applicants or beneficiaries of temporary protection may also participate.
Each person’s situation must be checked before registration.
Available levels: A1 to B2
A1 is designed for beginners and focuses on simple communication, introductions, shopping, travel, and basic situations.
A2 expands communication skills regarding family, leisure time, daily routines, and work-related situations.
B1 allows for the development of more independent communication.
At this level, the ability to express opinions and describe experiences is developed.
B2 is aimed at students who want to communicate more fluently.
It also allows for expanding vocabulary used in professional and social contexts.
Duration and format about the course
The courses are taught online. The complete training includes approximately 100 lessons and lasts about four months. Classes are usually held two or three times a week.
Each lesson lasts approximately 45 minutes.
Groups have around 15 participants.
Level test and registration
To participate, you must register online and complete an entrance test. The test determines the most appropriate level for each student.
Places are limited.
Participation does not guarantee enrollment.
Guidance on life in Slovakia
The program is not limited exclusively to language learning.
It also incorporates content related to residency, housing, education, employment, health, transportation, and the social system.
Furthermore, it includes information related to community participation.
Is a certificate awarded?
These courses do not necessarily equate to an official language proficiency certification.
However, participants who meet the attendance requirements may receive a certificate of attendance .
Do I have to pay for the course?
No. The Migration Information Centre program offers these courses free of charge to those who meet the requirements.
Can I study if I have never learned Slovak?
Yes. Level A1 is designed for people starting from a basic level. Do I need to take a test?
Yes. The process includes an initial test to determine the appropriate level for each participant.
Are registrations always open?
