If you are a foreigner living in Slovakia, you can find free Slovak courses to learn the language and get around the country more easily. One of the main options is offered by the Migration Information Centre (MIC) of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The program combines practical Slovak language learning with useful information about life in Slovakia.
The courses are aimed at certain foreign nationals who meet the established residency requirements.

The Migration Information Centre organizes free Slovak language and sociocultural orientation courses .
The aim is to help foreigners improve their communication and integration in the country.
Classes are held online and are available at different levels, from A1 for beginners to B2.
The program focuses on the practical use of Slovak in everyday situations.
For example, it covers the language needed for shopping, visiting the doctor, completing paperwork, or communicating at work.
Who can access the free courses?
The courses are primarily aimed at citizens of countries that are not members of the European Union or the European Economic Area. European Economic Assistance.
Participants must have valid residency status in Slovakia.
Certain individuals with temporary, permanent, or tolerated residency status may also participate.
In some cases, applicants for or beneficiaries of temporary protection may also be eligible.
The availability of places depends on each call for applications.
How do the classes work?
The courses are conducted online.
They consist of approximately 100 lessons , spread over about four months. Classes are usually held two to three times a week.
Each lesson lasts approximately 45 minutes.
Groups are organized according to the participants’ language level and profile.
During the classes, conversation, vocabulary, and Grammar and everyday situations related to life in Slovakia.
What do I need to participate?
To access a course, you must register online.
Participants must also complete a placement test.
This test allows us to assign each person to the most suitable group based on their Slovak language skills.
Places are limited, and meeting the requirements does not automatically guarantee participation.
Is the Slovak course really free?
Yes. The courses organized by the Migration Information Centre are free for people who meet the established participation requirements.
Can I start from scratch?
Yes. There are A1 level groups for people who are starting to learn Slovak. Are the courses online?
